It may be Time to Hit the Reset
I have had a few phones over the years that kept getting slower and slower until they froze and just would not work. I tried everything to get it working again, googled every issue and fix, but nothing would work. In the end I had the choice to just throw it away or reset the phone and start over.
In the book of Ecclesiastes we read this, ‘I observed yet another example of something meaningless under the sun. This is the case of a man who is all alone, without a child or a brother, yet who works hard to gain as much wealth as he can. But then he asks himself, “Who am I working for? Why am I giving up so much pleasure now?” It is all so meaningless and depressing.’
As you look around your church, or denomination, what do you see? Buildings. Pews. Stuff. However, if you look and realize there not a next generation to leave it to, it can all feel meaningless and depressing.
Have you felt there is a need to reset? Reseting can be painful. It can feel like you are losing what you had. Losing things it took so much time and energy to attain. It can feel like throwing away a piece of history you can’t get back.
It seems the Church has had many times when there were both small and great resets. Today is a day we really need another reset. Here are a few things I believe are true. 1 – The vast majority of people who come to faith, and come into the church, come as children and youth. (Some stats are high as 90%)
2 – There are a large number of churches who have moved past a time when significant children and youth ministry is possible from within. By this I mean the majority of members are beyond an age where they have children or youth to attend and build a youth ministry.
3 – In order to reset, churches will have to learn how to connect with children and youth who presently have no meaningful church connection. This can seem like a daunting task.
4 – There is hope. You can be part of a great ‘Reset’
For 2019 we dedicating our efforts, blogs, resources, and time, to helping churches and leaders who know it is time to hit the reset button. Here is what we are doing.
